Endless Mountains Health Systems Now Offering 3d Mammography

Endless Mountains Health Systems (EMHS) has replaced its 2D mammography unit with a new Hologic 3D/Tomography unit as of December 21.  The 3D technology allows for better detection of breast tissue abnormalities than 2D mammography. The Hologic mammography unit is the only FDA approved technology specifically incorporating and addressing dense breast tissue.  This new equipment also delivers more information with a lower dose of radiation to the patient.  EMHS has worked to reduce radiation exposure in all imaging modalities such as CT scan, general X-ray, and mammography.

EMHS has invested over $300,000 to bring this diagnostic tool to patients and providers in Susquehanna County.  EMHS was fortunate to have a significant capital contribution by Ann Vitale to cover a portion of the cost of the unit.  Ann shared “I’m pleased to be a part of helping to bring this new piece of diagnostic equipment to Endless Mountains for the women of the area.”  Ann Vitale has been a long-time proponent of breast cancer screening and she stated, “I’ve said the race for the cure is great but you can’t cure anything if you don’t know you have it”.

Sherri Arnold, Administrative Director of Ancillary Services stated that “there have been many positive comments regarding the new unit by patients, they have expressed an overall increase in comfort during the exam and are excited to have this technology available locally instead of traveling for the service.  “We are fortunate to have members of the community who recognize the value and importance of local healthcare and are willing to provide financial support” said Loren Stone, CEO.

Endless Mountains Medical Care Foundation (EMMCF), a supporting foundation for EMHS, contributed $100,000 for the purchase of the mammography system. EMMCF has supported EMHS’ capital needs since 1997 and donations to EMMCF are always accepted.

Endless Mountains is pleased to offer this best-in-class technology to residents of Susquehanna County and beyond.

The Spirit of Giving at Christmas Lives On!

Ailey Nelson, a 12-year-old Lathrop Elementary School student, continues the spirit of giving at Christmas by providing toys for children who come to the hospital when they are injured or ill.  This is the third year that Ailey has used her own money to buy gifts for children.  Ailey’s fundraising went further this year when the F4 gym, operated by Kerry Patton, as well as friends and family became involved in Ailey’s efforts.  Ailey is a wrestler and participates in F4 in Montrose.

Ailey also donated candy and snack baskets for the nurses at EMHS.

EMHS wants to thank Ailey for the great work that she does and for her kind and selfless contributions.
